Oh, Now We Go Green
June 7, 2008
It’s interesting how we don’t react to things that are blatantly in front of us until it affects us personally. Do we care when the things we do is a detriment to the environment? Do we care when the things we do affect other people in other regions, but we’re still safe above that buffer zone? Apparently not.
Wait, yes we do. We do care, but only to protect our self-interest. Quite interesting. Like always, we react only when it’s detrimental to our needs. We don’t give a hoot when other people are suffering, but now we start complaining when gas hits $4 a gallon. Now we’re changing our driving habits? Now we’re stopping ourselves from whimsically driving out to get a drink that’s a mile away? How much does it take for us to be rational? Or, rather, how much does it take to hurt us to become more rational? I don’t get why we take for granted what we have. It’s only until we’ve dug a hole for ourselves, then we realized that there is no obvious foothold for us to climb out of.
But hey, I’m not saying we should go green. Definitely not. In fact, I implore you to continue your disgusting habits. Seriously, let’s keep driving those big SUVs. Stop being hypocritical. If gas were only $2 a gallon, we wouldn’t give a damn, right? Oh, but we can’t because we’re only trying to protect our own selfish needs now that gas is going up. I forgot. Ok, yeah, maybe we should stop driving more often. Let’s all jump on the bandwagon. Let’s all do the right things for the wrong reasons. Let’s all save the environment because what we really want is to save our own behinds. At least, something good has come out of it. So, I say, let’s increase the gas prices.
